Street Safety
The first segment of the Bono Video deals with crossing the street safely. The song "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" teaches the rules for crossing "with someone bigger next to me."
Here are some ideas that will help you bring the message home:
In the classroom or on the playground, create street corners for students to try out the rules of crossing the street.
Using toy cars and miniature people figures (weebles, etc.), ask them to act out the correct way of crossing.
Invite a police officer to explain the dangers of not following the rules
I've Got Personality!
Everyone has a unique personality. Part two of our video teaches children that wearing a smile is an important part of showing off our personality. Here are some ideas to help this process:
Let children stand in front of mirror as they make faces to reflect various emotions - happy, sad, surprise, etc. The bigger the better.
Ask how they think others feel when you smile at them
Have students draw as many personality faces as they can think of.
Come up with ways to use a good personality to help others - visiting a sick person, cheering up a friend, greeting your teacher, etc.
